UPDATE ON CONSTRUCTION AT
GMU-VIRGINIA SQUARE
After months of delay, George Mason University has signed a
contract with S.B. Construction to begin Phase I of the
Arlington facility's renovation. The start date specified in the
contract is December 21, 1996. The parking lot will be open
as usual on December 23, 1996, the last day the University is
open prior to the Winter Break (December 24, 1996 - January
1, 1997). Parking changes will be effective January 2,
1997.
On January 2, 1997, students, staff, and faculty will begin to
park in the Colonial Parking Garage in the National Science
Foundation Building and take shuttles to the Virginia Square
site. The shuttle service is currently scheduled to be:
- One bus on January 2 and 3, operating from 7:00 a.m. -
11:00 p.m.;
- Two buses on January 6 (and thereafter) from 7:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. and three buses from 3:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. in
accordance with the University's administrative and classroom
schedule for the Spring semester.
An Arlington Construction Planning and Coordination Meeting
is being convened WEEKLY to address issues raised by the
construction process. The Arlington community may contact
Cass Connelly (Director of the Arlington Campus) 703-993-
8137 or Dr. Randall Edwards, Executive Vice President for
Administration, 703-993-8760, with any questions or concerns.
The next meeting of the Joint GMU/Arlington County
Academic Advisory Board is scheduled for Wednesday, January
15, 1997, at 7:30 p.m., in Room 319C, the Arlington Campus
of George Mason University. Parking will be available for
the Joint GMU/Arlington County Board at St. Charles church.
