This is to invite you to the Ballston-Virginia Square Civic Association's Candidates Night meeting on Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at 8:30 p.m., at the second floor conference rooms of the Arlington Hilton Hotel, 950 North Stafford Street, Arlington, Virginia. For your information, our Association Candidates Night Meetings and Membership Meetings are open to the public.

We have planned two candidate sessions, beginning with (1) the announced Independent candidates for the Republican Canvas for the Arlington County Board, approximately 8:30 - 9:15 p.m.; and (2) the announced candidates for the Democratic Primary for the Arlington County Board, approximately 9:15 - 10:00 p.m.

The Arlington Republican Canvas is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, 1997, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association building, 4301 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, Virginia.

The Democratic Primary is scheduled for June 10, 1997, at your regular polling place between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Each candidate session will be limited to 45 minutes. The candidates will have up to five minutes for opening statements, followed by questions from the audience.

In order to promote increased public participation, individual questions will be limited to 45 seconds and candidate responses will be limited to 3 minutes for each question. The first three questions for each session will be from BVSCA members, followed by questions from non-members or members attending the meeting.

For the first session, we will hear from the two Independent candidates for the Arlington County Board--Amy Jones- Baskaran and Ben Winslow, at approximately 8:30 - 9:15 p.m. For the second session, we will hear from the two Democratic candidates for the Arlington County Board--Barbara Favola and Jay Fisette, at approximately 9:15 - 10:00 p.m. The candidate background information was provided by the candidates at the Association's request to assist you in learning more about the candidates and their views. The Association asked that the candidate responses be limited to 500 words or less.
